I am hearing headlines, terms and phrases I have never heard before. I am sure, like many of you, I never even knew COVID - 19 existed. And now our world, literally and figuratively, has been turned upside down. How are you handling the changes? The uncertainty? The unknown? The crowded space of family and pets tightly knit together in your home for endless days. I have moments of relief and thankfulness to be snuggled together in our cozy home. At other times frustrations mount, children get on one another’s nerves, our dog gets noxious gas and I am ready to run for the hills! Yet, time marches on. The sun comes up. The birds sing beautifully as winter turns to spring. And barely an airplane is heard flying in the clear, blue skies overhead. And I wait with my family as we shelter in place. But does it just have to be a mind-numbing wait? Does it mean I should spend endless hours in front of the TV, news and social media? Or can there be more, should there be more to this unique time in our lives? I believe there can be more. I hope to strike the balance. I try to watch or read just enough of the news to stay informed and then embrace a quiet place. I take time to pray for all of our loved ones and then to just listen. I long to hear God’s voice and His perspective. I believe He is giving you and me a time and space to rest. I believe He longs for us to reconnect to Him and to our family members and loved ones. I believe this is a time to reflect. A time to step back and really focus on what is most important. I believe this is a time where He wants to redirect. I believe He wants us to redirect our attention back to Him and perhaps move in a new direction. During this time, as you shelter in place, I hope you can see things fresh and new from God’s perspective. He is giving us the gift of time and the gift of rest. And in this space of time and in this womb of rest, new dreams, ideas and vision are being birthed. I believe we will emerge stronger and better and we will step into new, unchartered territories He has planned for each one of us from the beginning of time. I believe the best is yet to come! I pray that you and I will savor this season of sacred rest.
1 Corinthians 2:9 “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him.”
